This series is an artistic exploration that reimagines the traditional Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) symbolism through a modern, vibrant lens. Each portrait in this collection combines the iconic sugar skull makeup with eclectic fashion, colorful landscapes, and whimsical props, creating a visual fusion of heritage and contemporary aesthetics.
A key element of this project is the integration of haute couture and dance motifs, adding layers of elegance and movement to each composition. The luxurious, detailed attire and graceful poses evoke the artistry and poise of dance, transforming each subject into a living canvas of cultural expression.
To honor my late grandfather, accordion music fills the background, reminiscent of the melodies he once played. This musical choice adds a layer of nostalgia and warmth to the series, creating a connection between past and present, and enhancing the fiesta-like celebration of tradition.
